Seven years under the oaks

Since its inception in 2020, the Tidewater Cup has committed itself to providing an unparalleled golfing experience for its participants, with a charitable arm to match it. Born in brotherhood, with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation named the beneficiary of our banter. We rely on your generous donations and your enthusiastic participation to keep making this tournament what it has become.

The donations you make and your willful spirit are not lost on me, my wife, or my family. Make no mistake — we will cure CF within our lifetime.

I am grateful for you, humbled by your generosity, and above all excited for another edition of the Tidewater Cup. Hit 'em well.

The tide so far

Four Foundation campaigns have sent $32,284 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The goal for 2026 is $15,000.

Cumulative funds raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, by year

The 2020 and 2021 Cups were played before the Foundation campaign pages existed, so what they raised isn't counted above. The real number is higher than $32,284.

Palmetto

The fourth course built at The Landings, opened in October 1985 to an Arthur Hills design, and considered by many members the most challenging on the island. The first six holes issue the challenge. The next nine offer some reprieve. Then the 16th, 17th and 18th return to earlier form, which is a polite way of saying the Cup is rarely decided before the closing stretch.

The 10th
One of the most beautiful live oaks on Skidaway Island stands just right of the green. Worth the pause.
The 13th
Philip Delegal, an early settler of the island, is buried alongside the hole — one of eight archaeological sites found here by the Army Corps of Engineers. Locals know to hit it into the graveyard for a free drop.

How it's scored

Net two-best-ball. Four players to a team, everyone plays their own ball, and on each hole the team counts its two lowest net scores against par.

  • iFour players per team. Everyone plays their own ball.
  • iiPlay until you're reasonably out of the hole, then pick it up. Use your judgment and keep the pace.
  • iiiPlay the tees your handicap is based on.
  • ivAt the end of each hole, record the two best scores on your team, handicap included.
  • vTwo net birdies on a par 4 scores the team −2. A net birdie and a net par scores −1.
  • viLowest cumulative team score after eighteen holes wins the Cup.

Prizes

  • The first-place team.
  • The last-place team.
  • The individual who best represents the spirit of the Tidewater.

What it costs

  • Landings members play free. No entry fee, nothing to send in.
  • Guests: $110 green fee. That covers the round and nothing else — no memorabilia, no donation.
  • Captains collect for their team and send it in one go. The club takes a single payment from us, so this is the difference between one transaction and eighty.
  • Venmo @Stuart-Childs. If you don't have Venmo, you should fix that, but we can figure something out.

How to get in

No forms, no portal. Text The Chairman and you're on the sheet.

  1. Got a full team?

One captain sends four names and four handicap indexes. The captain collects the guest green fees for his team and sends them in one go, which keeps the club's single-payment rule from becoming everyone's problem.

  2. Got two or three?

Send what you've got. We'll fill the rest from whoever else is looking.

  3. On your own?

Send your name and index anyway. We find a home for stray dawgs every year, and some of the best groups in Tidewater history have been assembled out of leftovers.

Members play free. Guests are $110 for green fees, collected by the captain. Your donation to the CF Foundation is a separate thing entirely.
